Police are searching the headquarters of Australia's Health Services Union in Sydney as part of investigation into allegations of corruption while Australian M-P Craig Thomson was national secretary.

Specialist police from the New South Wales Fraud Squad walked into the union offices this morning.

The operation by Strike Force Carnarvon is part of an investigation dating from September into serious allegations of corruption while Australian M-P Craig Thomson was national secretary.

Earlier this year, police raided the home of business associate, John Gilleland, who's been accused by union officials of giving secret commissions to Mr Thomson and former union head, Michael Williamson.

Police say they're seizing a large amount of documents and computer equipment.

They say they've already done a detailed accounting analysis of the union's affairs.

They're planning to release more information about today's operation later today.
