Scientists from the Pacific are confident they can overturn a European Union ban on the export of kava

Government and agency representatives will gather at a Kava Symposium in Vanuatu next month, the biggest gathering since the ban was brought in 10 years ago.

Dr Vincent Lebot from Vanuatu's Departrment of Agriculture told Radio Australia he hopes to convince the E-U that Pacific nations can establish adequate quality control systems.

"We want to put the South Pacific countries on the right track," Dr Vincent said.

"We want to develop the roadmap that will ultimately succeed in opening new markets for kava."
