Indonesia has offered a deal to resolve the stand-off over live cattle and beef imports from Australia.

This follows a meeting between Australia's Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd and Indonesia's Minister of Agriculture Suswono in Jakarta this week.

The Indonesian Government is proposing that instead of live cattle exports, the Australian Government invest in breeding stock in Indonesia.

It says Australia could also provide technology and education to local farmers.

Indonesia's Minister of Agriculture says the offer is a win-win solution for the future of his nation's trade with Australia.

He says it would not affect the Indonesian Government's plan to become self-sufficient in cattle by 2014.

Mr Rudd says a large number of Australian companies could be interested in investing in the cattle breeding industry in Indonesia, including providers of technology.
