Sri Lanka's high commissioner to Australia has been named in a submission containing allegations of war crimes.

The Australian chapter of the International Commission of Jurists has made the submission to the Australian Federal Police regarding the final period of the civil war in Sri Lanka in 2009.

Dr Victor Rajakulendra, from the Australasian Federation of Tamil Associations, says the high commissioner, Thisara Samarasinghe, was the admiral in charge of the navy at the time.

Dr Rajakulendra, said: "So he was temporarily appointed as the regional commander for the eastern region and he was in charge of the sea and there was shelling from the sea on civilian residences."

The Sri Lankan high commissioner has rejected all allegations of involvement in war crimes.
