China's jailed Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Liu Xiaobo, has been briefly allowed out from his 11-year prison term to attend his father's funeral.

It happened on September 18, his brother, Liu Xiaoxuan said. The brother said he had also been able to visit Liu Xiaobo in prison last month.

Liu Xiabo received his jail sentence for criticising the Chinese government and for his involvement in the Tiananmen Square protest of 1989.

His wife, Liu Xia, was recently placed under house arrest, almost a year after he won the peace prize, and has been denied access to phone or internet facilities.
