A Pakistani court has sentenced a paramilitary soldier to death for shooting dead an unarmed man.

The killing sparked a public outcry two months ago when video footage emerged showing the paramilitaries shooting Sarfaraz Shah at point-blank range in a public park, while ignoring his pleas for medical help.

Five other paramilitaries were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Mr Shah's brother, Salik, says he's pleased justice has been done.

"This decision is according to justice. The man who brutally killed my brother has been punished with what he deserves, and the other accused who left my brother to die also got the punishment that they deserve," Mr Shah said.

"I am confident that the High Court and Supreme Court will uphold this decision".
