Gunman opens fire in Netherlands shopping centre, killing 5

Five people have been killed and at least eleven others wounded by a gunman in the Netherlands town of Alphen aan den Rijn.
The shootings took place in a shopping centre in the town, 21 kilometres south-west of Amsterdam.
A pet shop owner in the mall has been quoted as saying an unidentified person emptied an automatic weapon at nearby people and then shot himself fatally in the head.
It is not clear what prompted the shooting.
Police have cleared and cordoned off a wide area around it.
