Hunger strike at Western Australian detention centre ends
Last Updated:
A member of Western Australia's Afghan community says a hunger strike at the Curtin Detention Centre has ended.
After two weeks of protests over delays in processing claims for asylum the head of Western Australia's Hazara community Daniel Rizie says the hunger strike is over.
He says an Immigration official helped broker an end to the strike by telling protesters their claims may be processed faster.
"They promised them somebody's going to coming from Canberra national office," he said.
Mr Rizie says the strike has taken its toll on the protesters and more than 70 people have been taken to hospital.
