Australians have always had a reputation as a sports mad, beer drinking bunch - not people for the finer points of culture.
But a new report has found that art, music and theatre are actually more popular in Australia than football and horseracing.
The report from Live Performance Australia has found that live performance is a $AU2 billion dollar year industry in Australia.
It puts the arts on par or ahead of football or horse racing.
Reeling from this new study, Newsline's Ross Bray turned off the match of the day, and ventured forth to get to the bottom of these startling statistics.
