New Burmese party vows to keep up democracy struggle
Last Updated:
A new Burmese opposition party -- that split from Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy -- has vowed to keep up their former leader's fight for democracy.
The National Democratic Force -- which is made up of former members of Ms Suu Kyi's disbanded NLD -- says it will "continue the democracy struggle" at possible upcoming elections.
It was given permission to register as a party on Friday.
The National League for Democracy has itself boycotted the vote because it would otherwise have been forced to expel Ms Suu Kyi.
The NLD won a landslide victory in 1990 elections but the military rulers never allowed it to take office.
Ms Suu Kyi has spent much of the past 20 years in jail or under house arrest.
