The United States is calling on China to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the recent cyber attacks on Google and other American companies.

Google says hackers tried to infiltrate its software coding and the email accounts of human rights activists and it says the cyberattacks came from China.

The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is calling for tough action against the people and countries carrying out cyberattacks.

"We look to the Chinese authorities to conduct a thorough review of the cyber intrusions that led to Google to make his announcement, and we also look for that investigation and its results to be transparent," she said.

She's also urging US technology companies not to support internet censorship.
