The biggest bank in Papua New Guinea has taken the unusual step of offering its own reward to help authorities recapture the country's most wanted criminal.
Police have offered a $5,000 reward for help leading to the arrest of William Kapris, who escaped from a jail near Port Moresby last week.
He is the alleged mastermind of several high-profile bank robberies, a number of which targeted branches of Bank South Pacific or BSP.
BSP chief executive Ian Clyne says the bank is also offering an undisclosed "cash incentive" for information on Kapris or anyone else who is planning a robbery.
"These people are desperate and they need funds," he said.
BSP has also boosted its security and reduced the amount of cash kept at its branches.
