Japan, South Korea reject a nuclear-armed North Korea
Last Updated:
South Korea and Japan say they "will never tolerate" a nuclear-armed North Korea.
South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak met Japan's Prime Minister Taro Aso in Toyko today.
The pair agreed to press North Korea to abandon its nuclear programme, and called for China to play a greater role in persuading it to disarm.
Mr Lee also said they needed to show North Korea that they will gain nothing by obtaining nuclear weapons.
And Mr Aso said they have agreed to strengthen cooperation between Japan, South Korea and the United States, and agreed on the need to deepen cooperation with China.
