Global Labour Day rallies turn violent

Hundreds of thousands of people have attended Labour Day rallies around the world, including many that turned violent.

In Turkey security forces fired tear gas and water cannon in Istanbul and Ankara, and arrested more than 100 teenagers.

In Germany police arrested 49 protestors after they set fire to cars and bins in Berlin.

In the country's west, 150 far-right extremists were also taken into custody after they attacked a trade union rally.

In Mexico City, police clashed with around 200 marchers who were defying a ban on public gatherings because of swine flu.
