Police have found a body on Australia's Sunshine Coast believed to be an elderly woman swept away in flash floods.

The woman's submerged car was found 500 metres downstream from the Six Mile Creek crossing near the town of Kin Kin in south-east Queensland yesterday.

It had been washed away on Thursday afternoon as more than a metre of water rushed over the crossing.

A body was located one and half kilometres away from the road.
