Fiji's director of public prosecutions and a senior counsel in his office could face criminal charges after they failed to follow Supreme Court instructions.

Fijilive news website reports the DPP's office failed to supply documents to the Court in October last year, despite repeated requests.

Because of the delay the Supreme Court was forced to allow an appeal before a breach in a prisoner's constitutional right to have his case heard in a reasonable time.

Fiji's Director of Public Prosecutions, Jo Naigulevu, has apologised to the Supreme Court for failing to follow its directives.

The Court has summoned Mr Naigulevu and a senior counsel for possible abuse of court.
