Japan may need to consider additional spending to support its economy.

Japanese Economics Minister Kaoru Yosano says more might need to be done in addition to a planned stimulus programme of 130 billion US dollars.

The global economic slump has virtually frozen Japanese exports and production of cars and electronics, and its economy is seen headed for its longest recession in modern times.

Japanese industrial production fell a record 9.6 percent in December, the jobless rate rose to 4.4 percent and household spending slid much more than expected -- 4.6 percent from a year earlier.
